HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK ALONE
Copyright © Jacques Girard, Ph.D.
http://www.payitforward4profits.com/spirou
If everyone who gets this sends it to 10 people, you can bet that we'll save at least one life.
Let's say it's 6: 15 p. m. and you're driving home (alone of course), after an unusually hard day on the job. You're really tired, upset and frustrated.
Suddenly, you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to radiate out into your arm and up into your jaw. You are only about five miles from the hospital nearest your home; unfortunately you don't know if you'll be able to make it
that far.
What can you do? You've been trained in CPR but the guy that taught the course neglected to tell you how to perform it on yourself. Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, this article seemed to be in order.
Without help, the person whose heart stops beating properly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.
However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough. The cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. And a cough must be repeated about every 2 seconds without letting up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.
Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital.
Tell as many other people as possible about this, it could save their lives! From Health Cares, Rochester General Hospital via Chapter 240s newsletter AND THE BEAT GOES ON . . . (reprint from The Mended Hearts, Inc. publication, Heart Response)

Let's Talk About Hot Dogs for a minute.
Copyright © Jacques Girard, Ph.D.
http://www.payitforward4profits.com/spirou
The following communication was sent me by Internet Marketing "Guru" Mike Filsame. Read and Reap!
Hi Jacques Girard, Ph.D.,
Let's talk about hot dogs for a minute.
No, I haven't lost my mind, in fact this will be one of the most important things you ever learn about marketing in general.
This is a short email, so go ahead and read the wholething right now. It's worth it, trust me.
Okay, back to the hot dogs.
Let's set up an imaginary contest between you and I. We're each going to open up hot dog stands right across the street from each other, and we're gonna see who gets the most sales.
Here's the twist...
We each get to choose ONE advantage to have over the other person. Maybe you'll choose to have better flavored hot dogs than me. Maybe you'd rather have a beautiful woman working the stand to attract more attention. You can also choose things like:
* A softer hot dog bun
* A more attractive looking cart
* or... a flat out BETTER product than me
* go ahead, what advantage do you think would lead you to beat me in this contest?
Well guess what, I'm really setting you up, because no matter WHAT advantage you choose, I'm going to easily win this (imaginary) contest... simply because of the
advantage that *I* chose.
Wanna know what it is? It's simple really, and this lesson comes from none other than the great Gary Halbert (one of the greatest copywriters of this age).
I would choose to have a STARVING CROWD!
Awww... I bet you're hissing at your computer screen right now, but think about this for a minute...
If you have people who are absolutely STARVING for your product, you're guaranteed to do well, no matter what you're selling. So that leads to the question, how do
you find a starving crowd?
There's so many Internet Marketers out there, but where do you FIND them, and how do you get them to see your ads? Up until recently, there was no easy answer to this question, but now there's a smokin' hot new website that is setting the Internet Marketing world on FIRE!
It has quickly become *THE* place to put your ads in front of thousands of starving marketers, who absolutely salivate over any kind of marketing related products and offers.
Many of these people buy everything that comes out...hoping to gain the competitive edge. That means big bucks for you, Jacques Girard, Ph.D..
You can go to this special "nuclear powered" Fr^e Advertising Forum, and get your ad read by thousands of marketers just like you, and you can do it right now!
Imagine checking your stats counter, and seeing thatyou got 500 unique, targetted visitors to your website. As I'm sure you've figured out by now, getting that many laser targetted visitors to your site is damn expensive, but now you can do it for fr^e.
(NOTE WELL: The link is expired, as it dealt with attending a Fr^e Forum a while back---I'll be glad to help you get in touch if you ask me...J.G.)
Thanks,
Mike Filsaime
P.S. - Did I mention that you can also find dozens of JV partners at this forum? It's just one of the side benefits of checking it out. Imagine being able to recruit new affiliates who are eager to show your product to their opt-in list. You've got to check this out right now, even if it's just to see what all the fuss is about.
P.P.S. - Oh, and guess what... all your posts get indexed right away, and they STAY in our index. That means that you'll get an instant boost in your link popularity ratings, which will send your website higher and higher up the search engine listings. And that means even MORE fr^e traffic.
Go ahead and check out this amazing website right now, while it's right in front of you.

"Customers provide you with the most accurate barometer of what's right and wrong."
(Herb Kelleher, Southwest Airlines co-founder)
I've gotten several questions recently about the legalities of starting a business. So, this week I thought I would address a few of the more common legal issues most new businesses face.
But first, let's get the mandatory legal disclaimer out of the way: the advice dispensed by this columnist is probably no better or worse than the advice dispensed by other columnists. Do not take the following advice as gospel or bet the future of your business on any advice given herein by said columnist.
Agreed? Good, let's proceed.
To begin, here's the best legal advice I can give you as a new business person: find yourself a good lawyer and make him or her your very best friend. Granted, your new best friend will charge you an hourly fee for chatting on the phone or talking business over lunch, but you'll find it to be money well spent. A good attorney can save you far more than the cost of his/her services. I rarely make any decision that has the potential to impact my business without first consulting my attorney.
You can locate an attorney through legal referral services or just by opening the phone book, but the best way to find a really good attorney is to ask other business owners for references.
You want an attorney who specializes in business matters. A few of the things you may need legal help with are: legal business formation, articles of incorporation, trademarks and copyrights, investment documents, employee policies, etc. You may find that a single attorney can't meet all your needs, but if you use a larger firm they will have attorneys on staff that can provide the specialized services you require.
Now, let's take a brief look at a few questions I've received regarding the legalities of starting a new business.
What's a DBA?
"DBA" stands for "doing business as." A DBA is another name that you use in the operation of your business other than the legal name. For example, "Jones, Inc." might be the legal corporate name of your business, but you might use "Bob Jones Landscaping" as the everyday business name. In this case, you would see the business
described in legal context as "Jones, Inc. Doing Business As Bob Jones Landscaping."
Here's an example of using a DBA to launch a new venture within an existing business. A reader asked: "My wife incorporated a multimedia business three years ago, and I am starting a voice-over business. Is it more beneficial for me to open as a sole proprietorship or to operate within her multimedia business?"
My answer was that he should open his company as a division of his wife's business, operating as a DBA. Even though he is using his own business name (the DBA), technically his wife's corporation is launching the service and therefore will give him some liability protection. Doing so would also help him save on start-up costs
(such as having to pay for a separate incorporation). It's relatively simple to keep a separate set of books, and when the new business takes off, he can spin it off into a separate entity.
Will a corporation protect me from liability?
It can, if handled correctly. You may have heard about the "corporate veil," which means that you can't be sued personally for anything that happens in the corporation and your personal assets can't be attacked by creditors or a lawsuit on the corporation. But in order to have this protection, youmust act like a corporation. This means conducting board meetings, taking notes and publishing minutes in your corporate book.
In addition, be sure to have a separate corporate checking account and, if you need them, corporate credit cards. Don't use corporate money for personal purchases, and vice versa (unless you file an expense report). Many people think they don't need to go to all this trouble if there is just one or two people in the company, but in
order to be treated like a corporation, you must act like one. Your attorney can give you more details.
How do I register my company name?
To register your company name simply contact the office of the Secretary of State. This is easily done by phone. The registrar will tell you if the name you have in mind is available as a corporate name and will reserve the name for you if it is available. You will be sent a form to complete and submit with a nominal fee. For more information you can also visit the Secretary of State's website.
Do I need a business license?
Nearly every business will require a county or city license. Luckily, such licenses are relatively easy to obtain and are not expensive. For local licensing requirements, contact your city or county government offices.
Some businesses might also require a state license. For example, hair stylists, contractors and most businesses serving food fall under the purview of the state licensing board. Each state has an agency that deals with these types of businesses. Contact your local government offices to see if your particular business requires a
state license.
Some businesses will even require federal licensing. Examples of such businesses would be those that provide investment advice or that deal with firearms. Federal licensing is typically required for businesses that are highly regulated by the government.
I operate my business out of my home. Do I still
need a license?
Operating a business out of your home does not get you off the hook when it comes to licensing. You should check local zoning requirements and property covenants. You can find this information at the court house or by calling your local license department. Home businesses are also subject to zoning laws that regulate how property can be used and may restrict various activities.
This is just a sampling of the legal issues that must be addressed by every new business owner. To learn more, take your favorite lawyer to lunch.
Just be prepared to pick up the tab.
Here's to your success!

The Vast Importance of SELF-DISCIPLINE
Sunday, May 27, 2007
Copyright © Jacques Girard, Ph.D.
http://www.payitforward4profits.com/spirou
To honor the great self-discipline of the valiant American troops who liberated me and millions of others from the Nazi occupation in my native Belgium during WWII, I wish to dedicate the following to you, my dear readers, this Memorial Day weekend, 2007.
"In reading the lives of great men, I found that the first victory they won was over themselves. Self-discipline with all of them came first."
(Harry Truman, 33rd US President )
It is understood that “men” is generic for “women, girls, boys, you and me”…and “discipline” is germane to “control”, meant to be implemented and demonstrated by oneself.
It is composed of a rich mix of essential ingredients which include deep conviction, sincerity, a strong sense of purpose, determination, positive thinking, motivation, stick-to-it-iveness, persistence, truthfulness, dependability, reliability, integrity, self-respect (*), focus, unshakable resolve, the firm acceptance of personal responsibility…and I may be forgetting a few more building blocks which forge that precious entity called “character” and “personality”.
Each of these components takes dedicated developmental efforts on one’s part, just as repetitions of specific exercises are required if one is to build up, strengthen, maintain and tone one’s physical muscular structure.
(*) Self-respect, respect to and from others, like love or driver’s licenses, are not "due" anyone as birthrights. They must be earned by sustained, daily practice and nurturing maintenance.
If this formula sounds discouraging , as it appears to be “too much work”, stringent, demanding…and more than it may be worth to the uncaring, uninvolved, lazy, apathetic, dependent followers and losers of society: my sincere regrets! It is one thing to believe in Santa Claus and the tooth Fairy when one is a child. Adult pragmatic realities are another.
Yet, early childhood is also the time of life when sound, loving, aware, responsible parents are expected to firmly and gently instill, teach, show daily, preferably by personal examples, how to acquire, build, harness and turn into a lifelong habit all the above described qualities.
Once they become an automatic way of life, they are as simple, easy, automatic and natural as is the process of breathing or blinking.
If you were not privileged to have parents, teachers or other role models to guide you, who possessed and practiced the leadership elements shared herein, cheer up: it is never too late to start !
Remember that, to form a new habit, or get rid of an existing, old one no longer wanted or beneficial, takes as little as twenty-one consecutive days of conscious repetitive and relatively effortless actions.
I could not think of honoring all the known and unknown heroes of Past times and events better than by sharing these heartfelt thoughts, visions and roadmaps for the Future.
This simple, yet powerfully productive system will gladly be shared with you upon request. All you need to do is advise me of your interest, either through a “comment” in this post, or by emailing me at: jacques.slimforlife@gmail.com . There will be no charge for this service.
You may further like to know that it was the major foundation which helped produce the unprecedented ZERO recidivism results for all fifty-seven paroled prison inmates who successfully graduated from my STOP CRIME Seminars series © (for at least a full year after their release), as described in the “About the Author” sections.
Bear in mind that the said formula was not conceived for the ‘criminal mind’. It is every bit as effective for anyone who sincerely desires to change negatives into positives and turn their lives around by 180 degrees within a relatively short time span.
I firmly believe that the late F.D.R.’s U.S.Government trained the WWII GIs well in boot camp and subsequently, for which I am personally eternally grateful this Memorial Day!
Your Caring Friend,
Jacques

MISS U.S.A. booed by Mexicans at MISS UNIVERSE Contest
Although it is a departure from this Blog's theme, the following is just crying out to be shared with you. I had intended to do a write-up on this sad event, but A.P. journalist MS. WATSON says it all very well in the article below. I just wanted to get a couple of personal observations off my chest, if I may...
1- The negative emotionalism demonstrated by a majority of the Mexican audience, the "hosts" of happy-spitited international Ceremonies being held in their own country, was a regrettable display vaguely reminiscent of the mass hysteria found amongst fanatic Muslim terrorists. It is a textbook classical brand of rat pack gang veneer bravery ("there is safety in numbers"). These types love to show off in front of groups of their peers.
It is also a reflection of low grade intellect, mistaking non-political guests for the Country from which they came. Besides the reasons given in the fine article which follows, it is a mindless outburst against J.W.'s and U.S. Governmental illegal immigration actions, misdirected and ending up hurting innocent individuals like MISS U.S.A., Rachel Smith...Oh, for the good old days of warm friendship between our peoples!
2- Donald Trump looked and acted very sheepishly at the end of the event, in contrast to his usual bombastic mannerisms and braggadocious pitches...And now, I yield the floor to...

Many here south of the border reveled in her disastrous evening: First Miss USA Rachel Smith slipped and fell on her bottom during the Miss Universe evening gown competition. Then she was booed by hundreds in the Mexican audience.
The treatment of the Tennessee beauty queen was nothing personal. It had more to do with Mexico's sometimes tense relationship with its powerful northern neighbor.
U.S. athletes have sparked a similar response. In 2005, when the U.S. played Mexico during a World Cup soccer qualifier, the crowd booed the U.S. national anthem and a smattering of fans chanted "Osama! Osama!" during the game.
Smith was booed repeatedly during her stay in Mexico, including last week, when she carried a guitar and wore an Elvis-style suit during a parade of national costumes held in downtown Mexico City.
She kept her poise during an interview Monday night with pageant judges, despite the boos and chants of "Mexico! Mexico!" that drowned out her answer.
"I am very passionate about education and being in South Africa sparked my interest in that," said Smith, a journalism graduate who volunteered for a month at talk show host Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.
Then she paused, smiled and spoke in Spanish. "Buenas noches Mexico. Muchas gracias!" which earned her some applause and some chuckles.
Miss Japan Riyo Mori, who went on to win the crown, opened her interview with "Hola Mexico!" to cheers and claps. Her personal trainer, Ines Ligron, said she had warned Mori about the importance of speaking in Spanish to win over the crowd.
Even an opening "hola" might not have helped Smith, who faced long odds for simply being a gringa.
U.S.-Mexico relations worsened in the past year after the U.S. National Guard was sent to the U.S.-Mexico border to assist the U.S. Border Patrol and help build hundreds of miles of wall to keep out illegal migrants.
Mexicans are also upset over a U.S. Senate proposal for a sweeping immigration reform bill that would limit the consideration of family ties, capping visas for foreign parents of U.S. citizens at 40,000 a year. The plan would change a system that favored family ties for four decades.
Many Mexicans also feel that the United States exerts its influence to tip the balance in its favor, whether in global politics or sports events.
On Tuesday, Mexican media lamented the fact that their contestant, Rosa Maria Ojeda, did not make it to the top five in the pageant while Smith did, despite falling down on the runway. Smith's fifth place finish only added to the theory that the United States always is favored.
The Mexican newspaper El Universal said Ojeda's fans were not as upset about her top-10 finish as they were that "the judges did not penalize that fact that Miss USA totally fell on her seat after she stepped on her dress."
The newspaper said that when the show went to a commercial break, an NBC representative warned the audience of 9,000 to behave because "this gives the world a bad image of Mexico."
Donald Trump, who co-owns the pageant, brushed off the ruckus as Mexicans' frustration with Washington politics.
Smith did not comment publicly after the contest. On Tuesday, she flew back to the United States.

The Comfort Room

How a grandmother's bed provides respite from thunderstorms and lifestorms.
By Mayo Mathers (Reprinted from "Treasures for Women Who Hope," with permission of Thomas Nelson.)
"Is your Comfort Room available next weekend?" The voice of my friend on the telephone sounded weary and faint. "I could sure use a respite."
I smiled, assuring her it was. Hanging up the phone, I walked down the hall to the room she'd inquired about. The Comfort Room developed quite by accident, but there is no doubt in my mind that the people who stay here are no accident at all. God brings them to us when they're most in need of comfort.
I looked around the room, running my hand lightly across the soothing pattern of the wallpaper. Walking over to the antique bed, I stretched out across the quilt with its blue and white wedding ring pattern and luxuriated in the familiar sense of comfort that settled over me like a feathery eiderdown.
My earliest memory of the bed goes back to when I was three years old. My parents had just brought my new baby sister to Grandma's house where I'd been staying. As Mom laid her on the bed, I stood on my tiptoes, eagerly peeking over the high mattress to catch a glimpse of her.
For as long as I can remember, the bed and its accompanying dresser and dressing table occupied what had once been the parlor of my grandparents' large Missouri farmhouse. During those long-ago summers, when all the grandchildren visited, "taking turns" was the order of the day. We took turns on the porch swing, took turns on the bicycle, and even took turns at the chores. But there was no taking turns when it came to sleeping in Grandma's bed. Even on hot, smothery, summer nights she let us all pile in around her at once. Our sweaty little bodies stuck happily together as we listened to Grandma's beloved stories of the "olden days" until one by one, we fell asleep.
Those well-spun tales gave me a strong sense of family identity, pride, and comfort. And I needed plenty of comfort when clouds started building in the summery blue skies that stretched over the corn fields surrounding the farm. How I dreaded the wild, crashing, earsplitting mid-western thunderstorms that resulted from those massive clouds!
Standing at the window, I'd watch the lightning flashes intensify across the sky and count the seconds until I heard the low growl of thunder. Grandma told me that was how to tell how many miles away the storm was.
I hated nighttime storms the most—when I'd have to go upstairs to my bedroom, up even closer to the storm. Sleep was impossible. As the jagged slashes grew more brilliant, the time between the stab of lightning and the crash of thunder grew less and less.
Then suddenly, FLASH! KA-A-A-BOOM! The light and sound came as one! The storm was here! Right on top of me!... At that point, I'd leap from the bed, and with my sister close behind, we'd slam into our brother in the hallway. The three of us tore down the stairs as one.
Hearing our pounding feet, Grandma would already be scooted over in bed with the covers thrown back for us. We plowed beneath them, scrunching up as close to her as we could. While the thunder shook and rattled the house, she'd jump dramatically and exclaim, "Whew! That one made my whiskers grow!" And from under the pillows where we'd buried our heads, we couldn't help but giggle. In Grandma's bed we were always comforted.
There I found comfort not only from thunderstorms but from lifestorms as well. Hurt feelings, broken hearts, insecurities—all were mended there. When I was lucky enough to have Grandma to myself in her bed—which wasn't often—I'd tell her all my deepest secrets, knowing she took them very seriously.
When my father, her son, died of cancer, I was eight years old. On that last night of his life, instead of spending those moments with him in the hospital, Grandma gathered me into her bed. Curling her body around mine, she infused me with comfort I didn't yet know I needed. ..
…In college, when a broken engagement had crushed my heart and hopes, she comforted me by saying, ‘The pathway to love never runs smooth, honey, but you'll find your way when it's right.’ Four years later, her prediction came true.
Shortly after my wedding, Grandma died, bringing an end to the unlimited source of love and comfort that I knew could never be replaced, the kind that only comes from a grandmother.
The years melted away with startling speed. Caught up in the happy frenzy of raising our two sons, I rarely thought of the bedroom set stuck away in the attic. There was too much present to think of the past. Before I knew it, our firstborn was packing his belongings to move on to a new phase of life.
The day Tyler left, I went into his empty room and sat down in the middle of the floor while memory after memory scurried up to tap me on the shoulder. His leave-taking had been more wrenching than I had anticipated. Inside the echoes of the room I tried to come to grips with the door that had just closed on my life.
Quite abruptly, a thought came to mind. I raised my head and looked around my son's room with new eyes. I finally had room for Grandma's bedroom set!
For the next two weeks I worked on the room, lovingly choosing paint, wallpaper, and pictures. Frequent tears splashed into the paint tray as I pondered all the different seasons one passes through in a lifetime. When the painting and papering were done, my husband lugged the bedroom set down from the attic and helped me arrange it in the room. I stopped to consider the completed result and was drawn to the bed where I let my fingers trace around the grooves in the curved footboard of the wonderful old treasure. As I sat quietly, a familiar feeling begged to embrace me—the same feeling I'd had as a child with Grandma beside me in the bed. It was as if she were in the room with me right then comforting me in this new stage of life I was entering.
Right then I christened it the "Comfort Room." From where I sat I prayed, "Lord I hope everyone who stays in this room can feel the comfort I'm feeling now. Bring people to us who need the comfort."
Our first guest in the Comfort Room was a friend who'd just lost her brother and two close friends to death. Next was a couple who were at a transition point in their life, not sure which direction to go. Then a young cousin arrived in need of a temporary home and an out-of-town-uncle whose wife was flown to our medical center following a severe heart attack. From the day it was completed, God has seen to it that the Comfort room is well used.
There is one guest, however, whose arrival I most anticipate. I'm waiting for the day when my son will return and bring with him a grandchild. Then I will be the grandma snuggling up with my grandchild in that old bed. I'll be the one spinning stories of the "olden days." And I'll offer to them what my grandma gave to me—unending comfort, unlimited love…
